Simile is the fundamental element and tool of imagery and visualization, serving as the origin for other rhetorical devices such as metaphor, metonymy, personification, and allusion. It reflects the poet's thoughts, perspectives, imagination, and experiences while demonstrating their ability to create harmony between external and internal elements and to connect with the environment and its creations. Molla Mohammad Soleiman, known by the pen name "Seydi," is a remarkable poet from Hawraman in Iranian Kurdistan, renowned for his depictions of nature. Seydi composed poetry in Kurdish, Persian, and Arabic. In his poetic imagery, he frequently employed similes and metaphors.
This research adopts a descriptive-analytical method, gathering data through library sources, to examine and analyze Seydi's Divan (including his Kurdish poems and Persian-Kurdish mixed compositions) and to explain his rhetorical techniques and types of similes in terms of their external structure and thematic content. The findings indicate that Seydi’s similes are primarily based on tangible elements, with abstract and philosophical concepts appearing less frequently in his imagery and similes. Explicit similes (Tashbih Baligh) are particularly prevalent, demonstrating Seydi's deliberate use of this form to evoke imagination and achieve conciseness and brevity in his poetic language. Furthermore, imagery drawn from the natural elements of the Hawraman region and its geographical landmarks prominently features in Seydi’s poetry and similes.
