The Last Pomegranate of the World is Bakhtiyar Ali's third novel. Its compelling title, narrative style, and plot have attracted a wide readership. The aim of this study is to examine the extent and nature of the author's innovation. To this end, using content analysis and drawing on the principles of narratology, the study analyzes the novel's narrative technique, narrator, and point of view. The author makes effective use of the conventions of magical realism in constructing the novel's plot. His innovations within this mode of writing demonstrate the need to adapt magical realism to the cultural context of the region. Rather than relying on a single narrator or a fixed point of view, the author shifts narrators and employs multiple perspectives according to the themes and ideas he seeks to convey. The narrator maintains a comprehensive grasp of the story's development and possesses knowledge of both preceding and subsequent events. The characters are described in accordance with the narrator's understanding of their personalities. Throughout the novel, the narrator repeatedly recounts the suffering and hardships of imprisonment. In some of these repetitions, however, instead of narrating events, the narrator turns to poetic description and lyrical expression. Overall, the novel's narrative technique and its use of narrator and point of view are largely successful, although the inclusion of non-narrative passages and the use of traditional storytelling techniques are not always effectively integrated.
