Imagology, a branch of literary criticism and intercultural studies, examines the representation of the “Other” in texts and emphasizes mutual understanding and cultural connections among nations. Within the framework of comparative literature, this approach enables the study of relationships between cultures. Sherko Bekas, one of the most prominent contemporary Kurdish poets, refers in a significant portion of his poetry to Arab artists and poets, representing their personalities and poetic worlds with a language imbued with respect, admiration, and empathy. These representations are sometimes based on the poet’s direct experiences and realities, while at other times they employ rhetorical devices and poetic exaggeration to convey symbolic and mythic dimensions. This study, using a descriptive–analytical method, investigates and analyzes the “representation of the Arab poet as the Other” in Bekas’s poetry, aiming to elucidate how these images are manifested within the linguistic, visual, and conceptual texture of his works. The findings indicate that Bekas, by combining a realistic perspective with poetic imagination, succeeds in establishing a humanistic and literary connection between Kurdish and Arab cultural spheres—a connection that not only enhances the aesthetic expression of his poetry but also conveys a message of coexistence, friendship, and mutual respect between cultures.
