Abstract
Mystical Romanticism, as an interdisciplinary approach in literary studies, emphasizes the interrelation between Romantic aesthetic principles and mystical dimensions. It provides a framework for examining the relationship between language, meaning, and spiritual experience in literary texts. Within this perspective, the “enchantment of speech” is regarded as one of the central concepts of Romanticism. In conjunction with mystical codes, it enables the production of fluid and open-ended meanings. This study aims to explore the representation and function of these two elements in the poetry of Bakhtiar Ali. The research is grounded in Umberto Eco’s interpretive semiotics and adopts a descriptive-analytical method. The data were collected through library research and a close reading of selected poems by Bakhtiar Ali, chosen for their prominent mystical symbolism and Romantic features. The central question of the study is how the word in Bakhtiar Ali’s poetry transcends its merely communicative function and becomes a generative source of meaning. The findings indicate that the poet constructs a network of semiotic roles and invites the “model reader” to engage in interpretive participation. In doing so, he places language at the center of mystical experience. The study concludes that the semiotic system of Bakhtiar Ali’s poetry represents a significant example of Mystical Romanticism in Kurdish literature. It also offers a productive model for the analysis of similar texts, in which language is not simply a means of representing experience but the very ground upon which mystical experience is formed.
